There’s a particular kind of stall that happens in a tech career. You know the next cert you need. You’ve looked at the study materials. You may have even started. And then you see the exam fee, add the training cost, and quietly move it to next quarter. Then next quarter becomes the quarter after a move, and the one after that has a deployment in it.
The SpouseWorks Scholarship, formerly MyCAA, exists for exactly that stall.
What it covers
Eligible military spouses can receive up to $4,000 toward a license, certification, or associate degree, or toward continuing education required to keep a license or cert current. That last part matters more than it sounds. A lot of the certs our members hold require continuing education credits to stay active, and those costs add up quietly.
What changed from MyCAA
Two things. First, there are no longer rank restrictions. Second, Coast Guard spouses are now eligible for SpouseWorks services. If you checked MyCAA in the past and didn’t qualify, it’s worth checking again.
Why this matters for the paths our members are on
Security, cloud, networking, project management. Most of those roads run through an exam with a fee attached. Security+, CySA+, AWS certifications, CCNA, PMP. For many of those, $4,000 covers a meaningful chunk of both the training and the exam.
